How does Mega Millions work?

Mega Millions is simple to play and holds drawings twice a week. Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), in Atlanta, Georgia. To take part, five main numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24 are chosen.

The Mega Millions jackpot starts at US$ 50 million and increases when nobody wins the top prize, according to the official rules of the game. Beyond the jackpot, Mega Millions has eight further prize tiers.

In the current structure every entry is given a multiplier — 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X — which applies to all non-jackpot prizes. Non-jackpot prizes therefore range from US$ 10 up to US$ 10 million, depending on the numbers matched and the multiplier assigned.

The countdown at the top of this page always shows the time remaining until the next drawing.
